She began her acting career on television in late 1990s and appeared in a variety of films, like The Woods and Blue Car Murder by Numbers Blood and Chocolate. The career of Bruckner began at age 11. Her appearances were on some dramas on TV and also in the daytime drama The Bold and the Beautiful which aired in 1999. In the age group of 15, Bruckner received her first lead character in the production Blue Car (2002) in where she played a high school student who was involved in an affair with a teacher, played by David Strathairn. Roger Ebert said that Bruckner played the script in a way that was complex and with aplomb. Bruckner received nominations for the Independent Spirit Award for "Best female leading actress" for this role. Her family consisted of two siblings and a brother. Hungarian was her mother tongue and she practiced it regularly in order to stay fluent. Bruckner is a Californian from Hollywood born daughter of the Hungarian dad and Russian mom. Her paternal grandparents were German. Her parents met in Hungary and moved into the U.S. in 1984 through refugees in Italy. She is the sister of two brothers, and also is the mother of two more sisters.
